This protocol is a useful guide to quantify carbon stocks and fluxes in high Andean ecosystems. The protocol’s structure is modular. This means that in the future other variables not included in this first draft (eg. carbon flux to soil organic matter decomposition, net primary productivity, etc.) could be included within the same sampling design. Furthermore, other modules can be included to assess carbon stocks in other type of gradients (eg. land use).
