The Forest Carbon Calculator (FCC) uses predictive relationships between tree biomass, tree diameter and wood density to determine the amount of above ground Carbon in a forest. The application currently uses TEAM Vegetation Protocol data collected from 1ha plots at TEAM Sites. The TEAM Vegetation Monitoring Protocol provides a standardized methodology for the monitoring of tree and liana biodiversity in tropical forests providing the basic information to calculate above-ground carbon. Forest carbon was estimated following the GOLD-GOFC guidelines for monitoring and measuring carbon (GOLD-GOFC, 2008) by using statistical relationships between tree biomass, tree diameter and wood density. In the near future TEAM will extend this application to function with any forest vegetation dataset that can be used to determine above ground carbon. In addition to accepting new datasets we will incorporate wood density databases and provide other allometric equations. Check back soon for these and additional improvements.
